I definitely feel that Ecological theory is trying too hard to be a 'hard science' and I think it was Theodore Roszak who said it will either be the last of the old sciences (stubborn and following the herd) or the first of the new (both robust and interdisciplinary in its epistemological foundations).

Unfortunately I've felt my calling is somewhere far away from being an Ecologist in the biological sense. Maybe a cosmic, artistic, or philosophical ecologist would be a better ideal for me...
