Sometimes I find myself wondering if the Tulku system should not be focussed on so much.
Of course it’s great “proof” of reincarnation, but Nalanda wasn’t enthroning people to preach for masses in the thousands. They had one teacher for every 6 students, and each of these “cells” actually lived together so the lineage of transmission was genuine and deep.
I find that a focus on finding and training prodigies neglects regular people, and makes the Dharma more and more inaccessible. Of course, it was already inaccessible for most lay people in Tibet, so now in the West and its globalized modernity, a lot of thinking and experimentation is called for…
