This is such a profound topic. As a former scientist, I actually got so frustrated with the dogmas of materialism and externalities of science that I basically dropped out in order to bridge the gap between the inner and outer worlds. The Buddhist scholar Alan Wallace has written an incredible account called the Taboo of Subjectivity which really shines light on this dilemma...hopefully humanity can evolve its knowledge systems in time to avert misuse of its knowledge.
