Well for starters, being mindful over emotions can prevent you from getting caught in anger, judgement, lust, envy, delusion, and stress overloads. That's the root of most of our workplace conflicts and family issues solved right there.

Enlightenment to the actual nature of consciousness, historically speaking, has caused humans to wake up to how we are the same awareness experiencing itself differently. So other humans, life forms, and environments are seen as extensions of us; Shantideva has taught extensively on this and the Dalai Lama speaks highly of his teachings on exchanging self and other. Empathy is both the path and the goal!

The Buddha and the Bodhisattvas feel our suffering even though they're liberated from their own - which means they primarily act for our sake. You actually can't awaken if you're self-centred or lazy.

I wish I could have communicated all this in the span of a short article, but I had to remain on topic.
